If you care about what you put into your body, supporting the local economy and being eco-friendly then be a locavore. Whether you define this as buying food raised within 100 miles (160 km) of your home, food that takes less than a day to get from the farm to you or simply food produced in your region, our meat qualifies on all these counts.
Although the price for eating local may be a little more because smaller ethical farms, and operations like ours, can’t always offer prices as low as a the mass producers, the cost to the animals, your health and the environment is far less. You will have a clear conscience, enjoy better nutrition, have a smaller carbon footprint and a stronger local economy and this is good for us all.
When we purchase direct from small local farmers, this recirculates money in the local economy. It means that they can afford to buy local supplies and equipment and promotes jobs for members of our community.
So please don’t just order from us on special occasions. Regular support of family farms helps keep them in business and on the land so that this isn’t sold off and paved over to build large-scale industrial feedlots that consume vast amounts of water and fossil fuel or shopping malls with supermarkets who, no matter what they say, are more focused on their profits than local prosperity.
